Protecting the water intakes channels pen stocks galleries and other types of hydraulic structures against the inlet of debris, of vegetation, urban or industrial trash is achieved by the use of trash racks.
The trash racks are a welded construction comprising of panels formed by a set of parallel bars, equally spaced at a distance defined by the charge load, permissible vibration level and flow conditions. These bars are fixed to a support structure, which are either embedded in the concrete or movable.
There are two types of trash racks
Fixed trash racks, bolted to steel pieces embedded in the concrete around the sluice
Removable trash racks, operated by a crane using a grappling.
The operation of a trash rack cleaning machine may be manual, semi-automatic or with different degrees of automation according to customers requirements.
